Welcome to Charlotte Mason in the Smokies
Charlotte Mason in the Smokies began in April 2012 when one mother in Knoxville, educating her children using the Ambleside Online curriculum, found a couple of other mothers in Knoxville on the old AO Yahoo List and contacted them. After meeting, we realized we all wanted to read Mason's volumes together and have that accountability that comes with a book study group. For more information about our study group, click here.
This website has grown out of a desire to grow the Charlotte Mason community in Knoxville and the surrounding areas. We want to share the blessing of educating our children using Charlotte Mason's philosophies. The contents of this website are not intended to convey every element of Miss Mason's philosophy of education, but rather to give an overview of her philosophy and encourage those already educating with CM, or those interested in educating with CM, to dig into what Miss Mason herself wrote. That is why you will find that most of this website is made up of quotes from Miss Mason's books.
If you are new to Charlotte Mason, I suggest reading For the Children's Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay as well as diving into Charlotte Mason's own 6 volume set on education. For a plethora of information on how to educate using CM's philosophies as well as a free curriculum online, visit Ambleside Online. I believe it is the best resource available on all things Charlotte Mason and am very grateful to them personally for all the years of work they have put into making all this information available to the Mason community.
